As each of Marietta High School’s fall sports came to a close throughout late October, our winter sports have now quickly begun. On Friday, November 24th, the girls and boys basketball teams had their annual Tiger Madness event to begin the season. During the event, both the cheerleaders and Marquettes performed to kick off the night. The two teams, including middle schoolers, freshman, JV and Varsity were introduced individually as the crowd went wild for each player. The night also included a three point shootout, dunk contest, relay race and dance off. The winners of these events were Anthony Avendano, Jermaine Burke, Austyn Chen, Torrance Nonnemacher and Hannah Kroft. Opening night at home for the girls basketball team was November 29th, the final score was 52-37 and Dover took the win. The first home game for the boys team was Tuesday, December 5th, against Meadowbrook. The cheerleaders and the Marquettes have been working hard during their break between football and basketball season. The MHS student section is eager to bring on spirit with both the Marquettes and cheerleaders this winter season. The swim team began practicing in early November and has a packed season of meets lined up. The first meet was on December 2nd at Ohio University for Athens Invitational. On January 15th, the team will be hosting the MLK Invitational, the only home meet this season. Be sure to come and support the swim team next month! The talent on all of these teams is promising for this winter season and hopefully they all do as well as possible.
