Today rap is the most popular genre of music in the country. It has changed greatly over the years and the “old head” styles of the OG’s like Joe Budden and Biggie Smalls are no longer the wave. The new wave in the rap game is a style known as mumble rapping. Mumble rap is traditionally tied to artists like Gucci Mane, Chief Keef, and Future. So now, the top 10 rappers in today's rap scene. Coming in at number 10 is 6ix9ine. 6ix9ine is known for making some of the hottest hype tracks of 2018, with songs like “FEFE” (ft. Nicki Minaj & Murda Beatz), “KEKE”, and “BEBE”. (All Bangers) Though unfortunately 6ix9ine recently was convicted on a federal RICO charge, and his trial is not for ten more months, so 6ix9ine will have to take some time off. Though luckily he was still able to drop his new project DUMMY BOY on November 27. NUMBER 9 JuiceWRLD. After the release of Goodbye and Good Riddance JuiceWRLD’s debut album, his fame quickly thanks to his hit songs “All Girls Are the Same”, and “Lucid Dreams”. JuiceWRLD’s most recent project was a joint mixtape with Future with songs like Fine China and Red Bentley ft. Young Thug. NUMBER 8 Lil Baby. After his song “Yes Indeed” featuring Drake (Popular Canadian Rapper) dropped before his album Harder Than Ever, it quickly gained popularity and jumped to the top of the charts. This solidified Lil Baby as a rapper, and Lil Baby recently dropped a joint album with Gunna, Drip Harder. NUMBER 7 Gunna. Gunna has recently blown up thanks to multiple hits including “Drip Too Hard”, “Never Recover”, and “Oh Okay” ft. Young Thug & Lil baby. Gunnas nasty flow and genius rhymes are why listeners can not get enough of him. NUMBER 6 Supreme Patty. Patty may be have gotten his fame on Instagram for making crazy videos where he puts hot sauce and lemon juice into his eyes while smoking “Gas”. Patty is now transitioned into the rap game, and it could not have gone any better. His most recent song “Just Woke Up” ft. YNW Melly is believed to be his best yet. NUMBER 5 KODAK Black. The Pompano Beach rapper has had countless hits over the passed few years including “Skrilla”, “No Flockin”, and personal favorite, his feature in “Lockjaw”. Kodak has been caught up in the law numerous times as teenager but has recently been on the right path, and has been hanging out at University of Florida football games, where he often watches from the sidelines. NUMBER 4 BOBBY SHMURDA (Free Bobby). Bobby Shmurda spun the world upside down with the release of his EP Shmurda She Wrote, headlined by the legendary “Hot N*gga”. “Hot N*gga” is one of the most popular songs of the current generation and referred to by many as the best song of the decade. Bobby just recently featured in “STOOPID” by 6ix9ine, his first song since 2014 because he is in jail. Bobby’s mom said he should be out of jail sometime around 2020 and rap fans can hardly wait. NUMBER 3 21 Savage.After the blow up of his EP with fellow Atlanta native producer Metro Boomin thanks to songs “No Heart” and “X”, 21 Savage has been a staple of the modern rap game. Following No Heart was his first studio album “Issa” named for the tattoo between his eyes, featuring hits like “Bank Account” and “Nothin New”. 21 is known for his genius lines and rhymes like he featured on Metro Boomin’s new album. 21’s great bars included “I curve tiffany, yeah, for Jess (For Who?)” and “All these chains, rest in peace to Harriet Tubman (Harriet Tubman)”. And never forget the classic bar from X “Hit her with no cond*m, had to make her eat a Plan-B And I’m sipping on the codeine, not brandy”. NUMBER 2 Lil Uzi Vert. The Philadelphia born rapper is known for his unique flow, though it is loved by many. From Luv Is Rage one or two, to Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World, each project is unique and good in its own way. His most recent project Luv Is Rage 2 featured “XO TOUR Llif3” produced by TM88, which was first released as a single, and became his most popular song ever. Uzi also featured in “Bad and Boujee” the migos banger that was the song of the year. NUMBER 1 MIGOS. Although they are a rap group composed of three members, Quavo, Offest, and Takeoff, it would be unfair to the other rappers on the list to put them on as individuals, because they would take up the top three spots. They blew up with their song “Versace” a few years back, and then grew their fame with their albums Culture and Culture 2. They are known for their use of ad-libs that are now popular among many rappers. Among their many great songs are hits like “Bad and BOujee,” “Narcos,” and “Walk It Talk It”.
