The American Badger: An in depth discovery in the MHS Journalism room.
The American Badger is an animal that is not to be taken lightly. The American Badger is no stranger to the forest floor, along with the prairies that stretch across the continental United States. American Badgers belong to the Taxidiinae, a subfamily of three badgers. Closely related to the American Badger is the Eurasian badger and the very popular Honey badger. However, the knowledge of the American Badger seems to be limited within the MHS journalism staff. When asked the question, “How do you feel about the American badger?” several students voiced their opinions. “Ain’t they invincible or something?” asked Spencer Tenney. “What does that mean?” asked Mohamed Ismail. It seems as though that some of the students aren’t well informed on the American Badger. However, one student, Oscar Hampton, looked up a photo of an American Badger and had a few words to share about it “The American badger is a beautiful creature, it’s a carnivore despite it looking like a rodent. Very pretty stripes on its face, it looks pretty, until it is enraged.” Clearly, after looking at a picture of this magnificent animal, students have a vastly different opinion on the animal than before. After being shown an image of the American Badger, the responses have differed. “I don’t really have an opinion. He’s kind of cute?” says Mrs. Warren. “Me? I feel like the American badger is underrated.” Kennedy Schuck responds, confidently. It is clear now that the students in the MHS journalism class have very different opinions about the American Badger than before. The American Badger, is one of the most ferocious, majestic, and adorable creatures in the animal kingdom, which is feared among small animals. The badger has few predators, namely the golden eagle, the brown bear, and the coyote. They do not live in southeastern Ohio, but they do live along the banks of lake eerie, and almost the entire western half of the continental United States. With it being close to the Christmas season, the American badger is known to hunt in the snow, finding small animals to prey on. However, the American badger must be watchful of the birds of prey that hunt during the winter season, as they will kill and eat the American badger. The badger also must be careful of the wolves and coyotes that hunt in the winter
