As the holidays roll in, we may begin to recognize the role social media plays in our holiday season. With family posts, party invitations, and spirited holiday filters, Christmas is a time of year to tag those who mean the most to you. But what is this joyous scrolling was soon hindered? There has been recent debate to repeal net neutrality. If one were to repeal net neutrality, there would be two options for internet streaming. One would provide fast internet streaming. This expense would be easily paid for by big companies such as Google, Facebook, and Amazon. The second option, would be for us peasants. We would be given the slow internet service. The internet would essentially be like cable television, it will still exist but there will be more restrictions as there will be a main company in control. Who would think of such a monopolies idea you would think? The answer is Ajit Pai, the chairman to the Federal Communications Commission. Appoint by President Trump, Pai provide the public with outrageous expenses for the internet we are privileged with today. With these large companies in charge, smaller businesses will not stand a chance when hoping to market their product. Instead of the olden days when anyone could think of an idea, innovation, or application and throw it onto the internet where thirsty hipsters would devour the knowledge, we could potentially be restricted and bow to the feet of major corporations. So this holiday season, when you want to lurk on your crush's instagram or post your smoking hot reindeer filter selfie, thank Ajit Pai for ruining christmas.
