The Marietta Lady Tigers soccer team faced off against the Cambridge Lady Bobcats Monday night at Cambridge High School. The Lady Tigers were missing one of their key players, Emily Mendenhall. Mendenhall suffered an ankle injury against the Minford Lady Falcons Saturday afternoon. She hopes to be back on the field within the next three weeks. The starting lineup for the Lady Tigers included goalkeeper Brookelyn Heiss, defenders Hunter Welch, Sam Zumwalde, Gretchen Lankford, and Chloe Chen, midfielders Courtney Schuck, Maria Pfaff, and Claire Schenkel, and forwards Kyleigh Lewis, Lexie Mullen, and Kennedy Schuck. The Lady Tigers came out strong scoring 7 goals in the first half. In the second half, they finished off the Lady Bobcats by knocking in 5 more goals. Goalkeepers Brookelyn Heiss and Kennedy Schuck were both credited with zero saves throughout the game. Marietta currently has a 3-0-0 record while the Lady Bobcats have a record of 0-3-0. Senior captain Lexie Mullen had this to say about the game, “I felt that we played well. Even though the score was extremely high, our possession and patience away from the goal was still strong. We worked well as a team and used this high scoring game as a way of preparing for our harder games later in the season”. There are high expectations for the Lady Tigers this season. Last season they finished with a record of 15-3-1. Only one varsity starter graduated so the Lady Tigers are looking at a similar lineup. Mullen has high hopes for the team for the remainder of the season. “Our entire team is extremely dedicated and loves to play, which does make a major difference on the field. I am hoping for us to finish our season with another great record and various accomplishments!” The Lady Tigers are scheduled to take on the Warren Lady Warriors September 6th at 7 pm at Jerry Brock Field in Devola.
